Kiel Schmidt earned his BA in Architecture at UC Berkeley. He has 12 years of experience in architecture, construction and community development. In 2012, he and his brother Nolan founded Tower Urban Family Farm in Fresno, CA. In 2014, Kiel left architecture to be the Development and Operations Manager for Food Commons Fresno, a new organization striving to build an equitable local food system in the San Joaquin Valley. In 2015, Food Commons Fresno purchased the CSA business from T&D Willey Farms in Madera, CA. They rebranded the CSA as Ooooby “Out of our own backyards” and developed a host of new products and services to meet market and affordability targets. Today, Food Commons Fresno has 28 employees and operates 4 business divisions including the former T&D Willey Farm, wholesale distribution, commissary kitchen, and Ooooby with over 820 subscribers.
